Mario's Galactic Adventure Trailer Debuts, Revealing New Characters Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Actors
The collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination unveiled the initial complete preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on Wednesday. It was showcased in a Nintendo-focused broadcast that centered on the upcoming animated film.
The follow-up to the successful 2023 release The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this new installment will send Mario to the distant reaches of the cosmos. Along the way, he discovers a new princess and a challenging new adversary in Bowser Jr., the offspring of the Koopa King.
A Space-Faring Quest Based on Beloved Titles
Much like the games from the Wii period that act as its source material, Mario will venture away from the cozy environment of the Mushroom Kingdom to explore outer space. On his epic voyage, he will meet again some well-known personalities, including the Luma, a breakout star from the first movie.
But it appears Mario and his brother Luigi will face a fresh enemy in the form of Bowser's angry little boy, who seemingly utilizes powers related to metal. Notably, the preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not exclusively centered on Galaxy-themed scenes; it also contains hints to other beloved games like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
Celebrity Voice Actors Returns and Expands
The film will feature once again of the primary vocal talent, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
New additions to the ensemble for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will bring to life Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to embody Bowser Jr. This was confirmed by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.
A Big Year for Mario
The new Mario movie is scheduled to arrive near the 40th anniversary of the first Super Mario Bros. title. In addition to the movie, 2026 promises to be a major period for Mario and his allies.
The company has three new games officially announced for 2026, featuring Mario Tennis Fever, a version for Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a new Yoshi platformer titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
